Chat us through the process of how you created your piece:

Our copywriter wrote a beautiful manifesto, so I started there to find inspiration. I had read the paragraph and picked the quote that really resonated with me which was ‘Share your magic with the world, bay girl!’. From there I wanted to create a piece that was sparkly, feminine and made people happy, so I baked a cake!

How did the manifesto influence your ideas for the piece?

The above quote I chose gave me the opportunity to reflect that emotion literally in my piece which was fun! I used gold, pinks and soft multi colours to reflect the ‘magic’ and made the cake have a retro aesthetic reflective of what we’re seeing trending on the socials of brands all over the world. This particular quote offers a sense of encouragement without resilience. It makes you feel like you don’t need to shy away from what who are personally or creatively. The people around you, your world, need to see and hear you and how you choose to express, that is your prerogative.

Why did the Power Project resonate with you?

The Power Project resonated with me because of what we stand for, the message we are trying to deliver and above all how we want to make women feel. We want to empower women to embrace every part of themselves which in the past they may kept hidden out of fear.

How did you find the confidence to express yourself through your art?

The confidence came from experience in creating ‘art’ like this before and from knowing that I was supported by my peers. I’m very fortunate to be part of a brand that really encourages us to have a voice and manifest that however we feel comfortable with, and for me one way is through my art; whether baking, painting or illustrating.

Empowerment is confidence. It’s about finding the confidence within yourself to be you.

Why do you think it is important to share and express yourself through your art?

Expression through art gives us an opportunity to combine all our emotions in to a piece that reflects us, whether it be who we are as a person or our skills, and then share it in one of the most powerful forms of expression, art. Despite always being up for interpretation, art gives us the opportunity to also begin the dialogue that we need to ignite change.

What does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment is confidence. It’s about finding the confidence within yourself to be you.

Who inspires you?

My mother and my grandmother are very strong women in my life and two people who inspire me daily. Not only strong personalities individually, but both have become strong people as a result of hardships in their lives that sent them on a quest for personal empowerment and leadership. I’m also surrounded by many women, personally and professionally, that inspire me every day, who I admire for various reasons. Whether they have aspirational or inspirational qualities in terms of behaviours or actions, I love being surrounded by the positivity, support and encouragement daily.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Be kind to those who aren’t to you because they need it the most.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer to other women?

Fear can be stifling and in the end to your own detriment. This life isn’t a rehearsal so take the fear out of the equation and you’ll find a weight being lifted off your shoulders. Do one thing a day that scares you, starting from your littlest fear and watch your personal power flourish.

If you were able to change one thing in the world what would it be?

A change would be a higher level of acceptance and empathy. We need to be more accepting of others, who they are, what they stand for and what they want from and for their lives. If we were more educated in the topics that don’t agree with our own philosophies, we would find ourselves in a better place externally and internally.
