Chat us through the process of how you created your piece:

I read the manifesto and circled all the phrases that spoke most to me and started to letter them. Usually while I do this I get ideas for illustrations and then I add them. I started out with 5 or 6 ideas and went with three illustrations that work best.

How did the manifesto influence your ideas for the piece?

It absolutely did influence my ideas as I agree with everything stated in it. It’s so inspiring and uplifting and since I’m a lettering artist I used direct quotes from the manifesto.

Why did the Power Project resonate with you?

I think empowering women is the only way to get equality. I tend to doubt myself and my work on a daily basis, and I know it’s not just me, a lot of women do this. Does my work matter? Does anyone care? Will they like me? Etc. So once we are empowered we can move forward. I think the Power Project is an awesome way to reach young women and empower them.

I think empowering women is the only way to get equality.

How did you find the confidence to express yourself through your art?

I have to admit that I lack confidence sometimes. I think it’s important to have people around you who give you feedback and empower you as an artist. You just need a support system of any kind and I’m so thankful for the people in my life, and of course having a community on social media is helpful too.

Why do you think it is important to share and express yourself through your art?

It’s an outlet for me and a way to cope with everything around me. I don’t think I have the choice to create, it keeps me sane it’s also a lot of fun.

What does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment to me means the support system of mostly women around me that have my back and that I can exchange experiences with.

Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by other artists, especially the ones who’s focus is feminism as well, so I’m inspired by illustrators, musicians but also by activists.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

It’s okay to make mistakes, don’t beat yourself up, but learn from them and appreciate what you have.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer to other women?

Don’t doubt yourself so much, just create.

If you were able to change one thing in the world what would it be?

Equality for everyone.
